We have shorter classes and longer drawing and painting programs that develop skills over years. Currently we offer classes in how to draw in pencil or charcoal and how to paint in oil. There are draw and paint portrait sessions, quick sketch nude model life drawing sessions and long pose figure drawing sessions for students and professional artists.

Artistic Anatomy of the Human Body, June 18th - July 30th

This is a general artistic human anatomy class. We move from a general idea of the body and its parts to a more specific understanding of the muscles and systems. The goal of the class is that you gain ability to draw a reasonable human figure from imagination or from the live model.
Learn the basics drawing of female anatomy and male anatomy.
Emphasis is on artistic anatomy and what artists need to succeed!

Basic Drawing/ Learn to Draw

Beginner to Intermediate
This class is for beginners or artists who wish to review the basics of drawing. Learn to draw in pencil, make great shapes, get proportions, and shading. We will draw from different subject matter including still life, portrait and landscape. Practice exercises will be supplied to students. Students who wish to take their practice further can enroll in the Drawing Intensive Program.

Class is for children aged 7-10 who aspire to become future artists, are looking to improve their drawing abilities, or simply want to discover a new and challenging activity.
Not just another class, we take the question "how to draw for kids?" seriously. We have a proven track record of teaching adults and children to draw.
Kids learn to draw using line, basic geometric shapes, shading and the essentials of color. Students work on a variety of images and subjects, stimulate their curiosity and encourage their creativity.
The format is fun and relaxed with a snack break.

Join us and paint outside this summer! Each week we will visit a new location in or near New Hope, PA. We will be doing one day, on the spot paintings, working quickly and learning how to sketch simply in oil.
We will be going over basic landscape palettes, how to paint, strategies for approaching the landscape and how to set up up your gear.

Learn the basics of design in art!
We will cover basic concepts and do various exercises to strengthen our understanding of them. Different subjects will be emphasized and used to make design concepts more clear.
We will have fixed exercises that students will do. Students will also have the opportunity to bring in personal work and apply the design concepts to them.
The goal of the class is to make students aware of design terms and what they are. The further goal is to be able to apply the concepts in exercises and to individual works of art.

Fundamentals of Watercolor
This class will focus on the fundamentals of painting with watercolors.
With step by step instruction, demonstrations and practice. Attention and focus on individual growth in the students’ own pace will be central in this class. Learn to paint watercolors in a fun and fluent manner. Discover and nurture your own personal style of expression.

An icon is a small devotional image for the purpose of accompanying prayer.
This class is for anyone interested in copying a classical icon with pen and colored pencils. You will leave class with a finished piece you can use or frame. Beginner or intermediate(Some drawing experience recommended).
Material is provided. References will be from Christian iconography. You are welcome to bring your own.

What is the course…

- Saturday Morning 10am-1pm: Portrait painting study with live model once monthly
This is a multi year program with the first year focused on drawing, the 2nd year on grisaille oil paint, the 3rd year limited to full color palette.
This is a comprehensive drawing program focusing on fundamentals of accurate drawing, material handling and observation. Exercises and concepts build from simple to multilayered and more complex. Learn how to draw in pencil and then paint in oil paint.
The focus is on continual improvement in drawing and observation skill with the addition of oil painting, materials and how to handle them.
In the morning there is a studio segment which includes painting from cast, still life formats and master copies. Some of the work can be completed at home. We teach wash drawing techniques, grisaille, and then basic color theory and oil paint application. We teach a few methodologies including sight size and comparative drawing.
In the Wednesday class there are life drawing/painting long poses in the afternoon. Friday mornings continue with more life model sessions. In the Saturday class there is a portrait skills session and a model once per month.

Did you ever try to capture the gesture, proportion and anatomy of the figure "just right" during a quick pose? Have you been struggling to get the shape of the figure and the shading in a short amount of time? If so this class may be for you.
Each class is a combination of demonstration, student drawing and instructive involvement with each student. Each class is a mix of shorter and longer poses.
Materials list is a pencil, eraser and 18x24" sketch pad!
