After a brief meeting of the New Hope Art League, New Wave Palette has arranged for a demo and lecture on color theory by Neilson Carlin, founder of Studio Rilievo in Kennett Square in Philadelphia.   Neil has a BFA from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia and has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions.  His works are in the collections of museums, colleges, public institutions and corporate organizations.  His art has won many awards including Artist Magazine Annual Juried National Competitions several years running.  His paintings include portraits, still lifes, landscapes and spiritual subjects. Neil’s demo will be a portrait and we will be asking for a volunteer model.  New Wave Palette will also present a selection of their handcrafted, environmentally friendly wooden palettes.

William Bouguereau, his technique and process

Virgil Elliott, lecture and talk at Gold Light Atelier

Wednesday, May 23 – 7:30 PM

This is a rare opportunity to hear Virgil Elliott, talk about the 19th-century French academic painter William Bouguereau (1825-1905), widely acknowledged as having possessed a mastery of technique nearly equal to that of Vermeer at his best. Bouguereau employed traditional methods of working up a painting, including detailed pencil studies and oil sketches, and his careful method resulted in a pleasing and accurate rendering of the human form.

Virgil Elliott is a knowledgeable, entertaining speaker with many articles published in art magazines including American Artist. He is internationally recognized for his expertise as an artist, teacher, art materials expert, and writer. This man wrote the book on traditional oil painting -literally. Traditional Oil Painting: Advanced Techniques and Concepts from the Renaissance to the Present. The book is an expertly written volume of classic art, with detailed descriptions of the techniques used by masters such as Rembrandt, Titian, etc. It’s a beautiful book, as well as a useful reference for artists or art aficionados. We recommend that you buy his book from Amazon, (www.amazon.com) and then bring it for Virgil to sign at the lecture.
