Portrait drawing in charcoal or painting in oil. Learn effective ways of getting accurate shape, proportion and light and shadow. Head and facial anatomy and other specific points to the portrait will be emphasized. Models pose for 4- weeks; each pose allows time to develop an accurate drawing or painting.
Previous drawing or painting experience recommended.
Winter 2013/Session 1: Jan 15-Mar 12, Tuesdays, 1:30-4:30pm, 9 weeks
Work on a single pose up to 24 hours in charcoal. Learn proper proportion, shape and value finding through the sight size method. Good technique and clear methods are demonstrated and emphasized. This is a class to go beyond the quick sketch into more finished work! Winter 2013/Session 1: Fridays, Jan 18-Mar 15, 10am-1pm, 9 weeks
This class will give you an abbreviated taste of skill-building exercises that the full time atelier students learn but in smaller more manageable lessons. It’s recommended that newer students draw first and then work into painting after completing the drawing exercises. Students work through a series of exercises that increase in complexity from basic drawing exercises to simple single object still life paintings to portraits, landscapes and more complicated compositions.
